Being Alive Well': Health and the Politics of Cree Well-Being (2000, reprinted 2002, 2004)

"Look at the Rabbit" by Shirley Cheechoo:

The art work on the cover of this book is a reproduction of an original piece by award winning actress, writer, producer, director and visual artist, Dr. Shirley Cheechoo. Recipient of a 2008 National Aboriginal Achievement Award, amongst her many artistic accomplishments, Dr. Cheechoo founded De-ba-jeh-mu-jig Theatre Group, the internationally recognized independent Native theatre company and more recently, the independent film company Weengushk. Dr. Cheechoo lives in Wikwemikong, Ontario with her partner and fellow artist, Blake Debassige. From http://www.whetung.com/cheechoo.html (accessed 08/08/08): "Shirley Cheechoo's paintings represent the personal documentation of many experiences she shared with her large family in the north as well as those of other Cree families who lived by trapping and fishing." I would once again like to thank Shirley for so generously allowing her artwork to grace the cover of this book and thereby providing such a stunning visual prelude to its readers.
